The popular media player VLC has been updated to patch a critical security flaw, whereby an integer overflow might occur then trigger a heap-based buffer overflow when parsing the header of an invalid Real Media file (described in this security advisory. The new version, 0.9.8a, is available from the VideoLAN website. VideoLAN strongly recommends that all users update to this new version.
