Macworld reports that Mozilla Corp. has announced that they will add a “privacy mode” to the next version of their Firefox web browser. Version 3.1 of Firefox will contain a feature that will not record certain information (sites visited will not be added to the browser’s history), and delete other information when the browser quits (cookies and downloads). In addition, it will not auto-fill passwords, requiring that users enter passwords manually.
This announcement follows Google’s beta release of their Chrome browser, which has such features, as well as Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 8 (both for Windows only, though a Mac version of Chrome is planned). Note that Apple’s Safari already has a Private Browsing feature: choose Safari > Private Browsing… to activate it.
