Microsoft has released updates for its Office suite, both the current 2008 version and the previous 2004 version, to fix some security issues. The Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac 11.5.9 Update, at 9.7 MB, “includes fixes for vulnerabilities that an attacker can use to overwrite the contents of a computer’s memory by using malicious code.” The Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac 12.2.5 Update, a whopping 333 MB, offers fixes for apparently the same issues. Update your version of Office now to be safe from this vulnerability. Microsoft describes these vulnerabilities as “severe”, saying that “specially crafted Excel files” are the vector for the attack.
