Apple has released Mac OS X 10.6.4, the latest update to the company’s computer operating system. As often with such updates, this release not only fixes bugs and provides optimizations for performance, but also includes a number of security fixes. 28 flaws are patched, in this update and a related Security Update 2010-004 for Mac OS X 10.5. There are fixes for both client and server versions of the software.
Fixes include a number of issues with CUPS, the printing services used by Mac OS X; an update of the Flash Player plug-in to version 10.0.45.2; issues in iChat, Kerberos, Open Directory, SMB File Server, and more.
The updates, for the client or server versions of Snow Leopard, range in size from 222 MB (for the Leopard version) to over 1 GB (for the Snow Leopard Server combo update) and are available here or via Software Update.
It’s worth noting that Apple has not included the latest version of Flash Player. We discussed a newer version of that software just the other day. To be safe, you should download the newer version of Flash Player from the Adobe web site.
