Google Chrome Updated for Pwnium Competition Vulnerabilities

At the recent CanSecWest security conference, Google sponsored awards for hackers who could find vulnerabilities in its Chrome browser. They offered a number of prizes, ranging from $20,000 to $60,000, with multiple awards possible per level, up to a total of $1 million.

Alas, this contest didn’t cost them very much. Russian security researcher Sergey Glazunov won $60,000 for uncovering two vulnerabilities, which were patched in last week’s update. And PinkiePie also won $60,000 for three vulnerabilities that were patched today.

The current version of Google Chrome is 17.0.963.79, and the program updates automatically. More information about the Pwnium contest can be found here.
