Apple’s first security update of the year for Mac OS X, labeled 2009-001, is a doozy. With 28 items in its release note, this update covers a wide range of OS X elements, from AFP Server to X11, from the recent Safari RSS vulnerability to ten vulnerabilities on the Mac OS X distribution of the Python scripting language. This update is for Mac OS X 10.5.6 and 10.4.11, and more information is available here. It’s a 44 MB download, for Leopard, and 74 MB (PPC) or 164 MB (Intel) for Tiger, and it’s available via Software Update or from the Apple Downloads page.
At the same time, Apple has released an update to Java which patches four vulnerabilities in the Mac OS X distribution of Java. A 3 MB update, it is available from Software update or from the Apple Downloads page.
As always, keep your Macs up-to-date by installing these security updates as soon as possible.
