Apple has released what is probably the last major update to Leopard, Mac OS X 10.5, before the release of the next version of its operating system, Snow Leopard in September. This Mac OS X 10.5.8 update includes a number of security fixes, covering 18 areas from ColorSync to the kernel, from networking to ImageIO. This is a 165 MB update for Intel Macs via Software Update, but, curiously, the downloadable version is 274 MB.
One of the more interesting bugs corrected is this:
The screen saver does not block four-finger Multi-Touch
gestures, which may allow a person with physical access to a locked
system to manage applications or use Expose. This update addresses
the issue by properly blocking Multi-Touch gestures when the screen
saver is running. This issue only affects systems with a Multi-Touch
trackpad.
At the same time, Apple has released a security update for Mac OS X 10.4, Tiger, a 166 MB update for Intel Macs and a 76 MB update for PPC Macs. Information about both of these updates is available here.
