Apple Issues OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 and Security Update 2016-004

Apple rolled out several software updates this week to patch a slew of security bugs, with major updates for OS X El Capitan to version 10.11.6, in addition to releasing iOS 9.3.3, watchOS 2.2.2, tvOS 9.2.1, and last but least Safari 9.1.2.

In the security bulletin posted by Apple for Security Update 2016-004 and the OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 update, the company describes the impact of the vulnerabilities patched. Apple addressed a total of 60 security issues identified in the Common Vulnerabilities Exposures database.

Among the numerous bugs patched for Macs is the FaceTime vulnerability, which also affects outdated iOS devices. Apple iPhone and iPad users should install the latest iOS 9.3.3 to fix the FaceTime flaw along with a bunch of other security bugs. Mac users should install OS X El Capitan 10.11.6, or Security Update 2016-004 for Mavericks and Yosemite users, to get the latest security enhancements.

Security Update 2016-004 is available for OS X Mavericks 10.9.5, OS X Yosemite 10.10.5, and OS X El Capitan 10.11 and later.

OS X El Capitan users can download the latest updates by the method you prefer most: You can visit the Mac App Store to install version 10.11.6, which also includes the security content of Safari 9.1.2, or get the new software from Apple’s official website.
