Apple had scheduled to have an engineering team talk about security at this week’s Black Hat security conference, but, according to Black Hat Director Jeff Moss quoted in Macworld, “Marketing got wind of it, and nobody at Apple is ever allowed to speak publicly about anything without marketing approval.” While it’s clear that marketing should be aware of any such talks, it’s extremely odd that Apple employees went as far as scheduling such a talk without getting approval.
The Apple employees were scheduled to lead a panel discussion about Apple’s approach to security, and answer audience questions. Maybe some other time we’ll find out how Apple approaches security.
