On Tuesday, Adobe released security updates for its Flash Player, Shockwave Player, Reader, and Acrobat programs. Available for computers running Mac OS X and other operating systems, these updates address “vulnerabilities in the software that could cause the application to crash and potentially allow an attacker to take control of the affected system.”

Security updates for Adobe’s Flash Player (version 11.3.300.271) patch a vulnerability (CVE-2012-1535) which, “if exploited would allow malicious native-code to execute, potentially without a user being aware,” the company advised. Adobe fixed the bug after receiving reports that they are being exploited in the wild in limited but targeted attacks. Patches released for Adobe Reader and Acrobat also address critical vulnerabilities.
Adobe advises users to install the updates as soon as possible. Flash Player users can upgrade to the most recent version through the Player Download Center. Google’s Chrome browser comes with a custom version of Flash, which updates automatically.
