Skype Issues Security Update for IM Bug

Posted on by

In recent days, a bug was found in Skype where instant messages (IMs) were sent to unintended recipients. Skype acknowledged this issue, saying:

This issue occurs only when a user’s Skype client crashes during a Skype IM session, which may in some cases result in the last IM entered or sent prior to the crash being delivered to a different IM contact after the Skype client is rebooted or logged in as a new user.

This bug affects Skype for Mac, as well as the Windows, Linux and Windows Phone versions.
Skype has issued an update to fix this bug. The fix will be rolled out in the next few days. Users can download the latest version of Skype here, or use the program’s auto-updater (Skype > Check for Updates) to install the new version.
