Opera Update Fixes Security Vulnerabilities, Adds Stability Enhancements
Posted on by Derek Erwin
Opera has updated its web browser to version 12.01 for Mac, a recommended upgrade offering security and stability enhancements. This latest version of the company’s web browser fixes five security vulnerabilities, including one re-fix for an issue where certain URL constructs could allow arbitrary code execution, as reported by Andrey Stroganov.
See Opera’s advisory:
Certain page address (URL) constructs can cause Opera to allocate the wrong amount of memory for storing the address. When it then attempts to store the address, it will overwrite unrelated memory with attacker-controlled data. This can lead to a crash, which may also execute that data as code.
Opera users can update their browsers using the program’s built-in auto-updater, or download version 12.01 for Mac OS X here.
