The Google team has updated its Chrome web browser to version 21.0.1180.57 for Mac and Linux. The newest release, Chrome 21, includes a number of bug fixes and also patches several high-level security vulnerabilities. According to Google, many of the bugs were detected using AddressSanitizer.
Additionally, some new and interesting features have been added to the browser. Ever wondered what could happen if web apps were allowed access to your computers camera? What if sites could listen to your microphone? Chrome 21 includes a new API for high-quality video and audio communication.
The new getUserMedia API lets you allow sites to access your camera and microphone without a plug-in. As introduced at the Chromium Blog, the getUserMedia API has great potential to become a powerful “real-time communications standard for the open web platform,” and could be used to create some awesome new experiences. What could possibly go wrong?
