Apple Releases Standalone Flashback Removal Tool
Posted on by Peter James
Apple has released security update 2012-04-13-1 Flashback malware removal tool. This tool is designed to detect and remove “the most common variants of the Flashback malware.” It is similar to the security update that Apple issued on April 12, but it is designed “for OS X Lion systems that do not have Java installed.” Apple says that this is the same malware removal tool that was included in the previous update.
This is not an application, but an installer package. After installation, if the program finds variants of the Flashback malware, users will see a dialog. If not, there will be no feedback. Apple notes that, “In some cases, the Flashback malware removal tool may need to restart your computer in order to completely remove the Flashback malware.”
